What's Trending Snapshot June 2014

Trending now but not for long...

“Dear Kitten” is one of the top trending videos at this time. This a great example of using viral marketing in this video made by BuzzFeed for Friskies. Just about any cat owner will be able to relate to this video. Friskies and BuzzFeed borrowed a large number of elements from another viral video the “Sad Cat Diaries.” They even went so far as to use the same voice over artist, Ze Frank, who just so happens to work for BuzzFeed.

Facebook’s Redesign of Company Pages

If you follow facebook news, you might have seen the announcement sometime ago. Facebook has started the rollout of the new design to some pages if the page admins opt-in. At least that is the case now, however in a few days all pages will automatically be converted to the new design. It looks like most pages will be switched over automatically in mid June. Some of the pages we administer said June 16 and others June 17.

KHQ Mug on Late Night with Seth Meyers

If you watch the Seth Meyers show, you might have caught a glimpse of a KHQ mug. Each night the Seth Meyers show features a mug from one of the many NBC affiliates from across the country. When KHQ wanted custom mugs created for this purpose, they contacted TRECpro. They needed a very small quantity of mugs, and called for a fast turn around time. Since we had created mugs for other KHQ station promotions, we were able to create these mugs quickly and ship them directly to the producers of the Seth Meyers show. Creating promotional and custom branded products is one of those things I will never get tired of doing. There is a very cool feeling you get when you spot something like that “out in the wild.” If you're thinking about custom creations, be sure to contact us. You might be surprised how affordable promotional products can be.

Writing for SEO. Avoid it!

Writing for SEO. Avoid it! Title image.

The title may have been a bit misleading, allow me to explain. Writing for Search Engine Optimization, also known as SEO, is very important to the life blood of your business whether the copy is for your website or social media. One of the most common issues I see, when consulting on websites and social media marketing, is giving up unnecessary SEO juice. In other words great chances to use keywords or phrases were passed over. Thinking of keyword phrases is not always easy to do, especially if you are new to writing optimized text for search engines.

When you write for a website or social media try to avoid using the word “it.” For one reason, the over use of the word “it” can be confusing, especially when there are multiple things that “it” could be referring too. The main reason however is that “it” is often what you are trying to sell. The problem is that while people might be searching for “it”, they do not put the word “it” in searches. Can you imagine someone who was searching for a backscratcher just typing the word “it” into Google? The results will not be good unless you are Stephen King and recently decided to sell backscratchers.

When you are done writing your website copy do a search for the word “it” in your document. How many times did “it” come up in your copy? Each time you replace the word “it” with descriptive words your website will get a boost and your copy will be easier to read. So remember, when writing copy for SEO, avoid “it.”
